Dancing Light

In 2012 I decided that my light painting photography had reached a level where I was confident enough to produce a collection of work inspired by my two passions, Light Painting and Breakin (breakdance). I had experimented capturing dynamic movement in still images by attaching LED lights to the wrists and ankles of some of my BBoy friends and asking them to perform their moves in complete darkness.  As I felt more confident about taking the images and asking other performers of different dance disciplines if they were interested in being a part of  the project, it grew into what became a gallery exhibition of 12 images, covering 7 different dance styles. This is how Matt became involved in Light Painting, we met through a mutual friend and Matt wanted to come along to see how it was done. I’m sure he’ll go into that further on his bio.

The gallery was at Pavilion Dance South West in Bournemouth on 24th August 2012. I had an open evening with drinks and snacks and had invited as many people as I thought might be interested.  It was a fair turn-out and the guests were all complimentary and interested in the techniques used.

Dancing Light

This exhibition of Light Art Performance Photography (LAPP) captures still images which show the passing of time and the complex dynamic movements of difference dance disciplines.  This is only made possible by opening the shutter of the camera and capturing the paths of light as the artists move.
